GUYS in Singapore... WAKE UP!

The longer I am in the UK the more disappointed I am with guys in Singapore, *in general* (please don't take offense! I've got wonderful guy friends too, so if one of you is reading this...... you should know I don't say things without reason)

For starters... we all seem to agree that guys like pretty girls in general, and society has developed to, kinda, make allowance for that and assume it as part of a natural male instinct. But I never realised that it was horridly extreme in Singapore until I came to York... And this obsession with the superficial appearance doesn't just apply to guys, it's common amongst girls too. People here aren't concerned if you have a revealing paunch or flabby arms; girls aren't figure or height-conscious (I'd say obsessed, really), and here, SIZE really doesn't matter at all when it comes to choosing a partner whereas in Singaporean youth tend to make a big fuss out of it. If you think about it, when you're ageing and menopausing or lactating you're gonna lose hair and get flabs and a paunch anyway... This reminds me of what Joshua Harris said in "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" - when he looked at girls, he'd imagine them at 50 - this isn't some psychotic fetish but it's based on the fact that by the time you're 50 you would have accumulated wisdom, experience, and hopefully more virtue (and not vice) like patience and tolerance. The outer appearance doesn't matter anymore...
where was I? superficiality! Yes, we should stop making allowance for the shallowness of some (most?) Singaporean guys... it's not as 'normal' as it seems.

Or perhaps I'm generalising. There will definitely be image-obsessed people down here; perhaps I haven't met them yet.

But why is it so extreme back home?
The way society shapes us? But how? And I profess I'm a product of such a society too... but I'm aware of it and reforming.......

Another thing is... guys back home just seem so blase about Faith. I've heard friends comment that the guys in their church are usually the Sunday 'Christians' and the girls are often more enthusiastic. Is there really a guy-girl divide? And if there is, why so?
Apathy?

Once again, I don't intentionally wish to make a comparison, but there is a stark difference. When the blood donation truck comes to campus, lots and lots and lots of students will be queuing up for a donation. Christian Aid and Make Poverty History campaigns are wildly run and funds are actively being raised by CCAs and societies. Homeless projects, Social Action, etc etc...

Apathy.
And that's what we're like right? Apathetic to everything but ourselves and shopping and entertainment.

My goodness. This egotism down the generations will drive Singapore to the pit.
