'tis 1.10 am now... been sleeping really late for the past week and it looks like it's not going to change. My house mates sleep really late and most of the time a few of them bring in friends and they chat in the kitchen till the wee hours of the morning. Yes and my room is just above the kitchen so I can hear noise and laughter... so yeah I can't sleep. Sigh.

But anyway, I'm getting closer to my house mates bit by bit. I just taught 3 others to play daidee just now. I took the cards and went, "alright. let's start with the PRONUNCIATION!" and they kept laughing when they tried to pronounce "dai dee". Yeah.. 'twas quite funny.

I went for the gospel choir thing today. The Brits really can sing. I mean their tune is almost perfect and they can grasp syncopations and beats fast and easily. I think about half of them haven't been in choirs before, or at least the ones next to me haven't. And... yeah. we didn't have scores, the 'student conductor' (who has already graduated) taught us the lyrics and parts just by singing. Yeah. Wow, hadn't had that in a long time... my mind was racing to remember the lyrics and the parts. 'twas easier for me because I'm a sop, which always sings the melody. (Ha!) It's called Revelation, and it's a branch of many gospel choirs in the UK. Apparently there's an upcoming forum where all the choirs will be congregating and it's at York! Really wonder if I should be going for it...... but anyway. I was one of the two Asians in the entire choir, the other girl was Suzhou Chinese and I only got to speak to her after the entire session. Erm so tea session was a bit odd... I tried to speak to people but I guess they weren't very enthusiastic about speaking to me (GOSPEL choir. sheesh) 'cept for the student conductor. Or was I being sensitive? Hmm. Well I guess there's always this barrier and I don't blame them for that, really. I guess it takes time for the ice to thaw... Btw their version of "He's Able" is so different!

"My God is able, He's able
And oh my God is able
Oh my God is able to carry me through
I know He heals the brokenhearted
And yes, He sets the captives free
etc. etc. (forgot)
.... He walks on the sea"

How weird is that? it's roughly the same tune, but different rhythm and different notes at some places. Even the last line is different. s'posed to be "causes the blind to see" the way I used to sing it... I wonder which was the original. But it doesn't matter does it? :)

I have no classes tomorrow! Yippeee! Only bible study and salsa in the evening. How slack is that! But I have 2 seminars and 1 lecture on thursday... argh.

Spent about 2 hours reading Seamus Heaney's translation of Beowulf in the library today. It's really wonderful because a lot of my texts seem to revolve around Christianity! Almost every literary piece that I'm doing is associated with Christianity (or religious rhetoric) somehow... Beowulf, Rossetti, this Wordsworth poem called Tintern Abbey... and next week we're evengoing to study "Song of Solomon" from the bible. Haha. And with the Christian Union and everything... thank God that He has prepared all these! For the past 8 months or so I've been reading Christian books and giving bible study to the youth group...I think all these are to prepare me for the education here and even for greater missions now and in the future. God really knows what is to come and prepares you for it. Wow... I was quite amazed when I realised how everything falls into place.

Oh well I'm dead BEAT. I gotta go sleep now......
